Our Part

Trip to London

November 7/16

Whitley Camp

Dear Mother Father + Carrie:

This will be just a short one as there has not been anything special since I wrote you all on Friday. I do not know what is the matter with the Canadian mail. I have not had a letter from home now for nearly two weeks and believe me I got pretty home sick for them. I got one from Aunt Annie this morning and was delighted + surprised to hear from her.

               Friday Nov 3rd/16

Up as per usual, as you know we are all on musketry now. It is raining fierce here to-day so we have been in the YMCA building all day doing rifle exercises etc. about 3:30 we were issued with 2 can blankets each this makes 5 blankets each so we are all jake. I put in for a weekend pass and it has gone through all right. Murray sent down word from Bramshoth that had gotten one too, so I expect to meet him in London, Sat.

               Saturday Nov 4/16

Up as per usual. Those on pass get off @ 10:15 so I got cleaned up and had dinner and paraded to the station a distance of 2 ½ miles to Milford we had to hit a pretty lively pace to get there in time but we made it all right. Arrived in London about 2:30 at Waterloo Station. Took a taxi from there to the Golden Cross Hotel which is on the corner of the Strand + Leicester Square. Murray hadn’t arrived yet so I got a double room and I had to do some stepping around the hotel to get it about 3 PM I went out for a walk and as luck would have it met Murray on Waterloo Road. We went back to the hotel then took a round of the theatres and finally we landed a couple of seats in the Hypodrome which set us back 8 shillings each. After supper we went to the show which was a musical Comedy. Flying Colors and it was sure a treat it was about 12 when we got to the hotel. I went to bed + Mur wrote some letters.

               Sunday Nov 5/16

Got up at 10 AM bath + breakfast it is raining cats + dogs we went out and had our dinner and came back to the hotel and we hung around all afternoon until 5:25 when we ca,e back to camp we did not have a very good time on account of the rain but it was good to get away from camp even for a day. Everything is going along here as per usual. Murray is still @ Bramshoth finishing his musketry course and I guess they are working him pretty hard. Last night they issued us with Kilts and as soon as I get the rest of the paraphernalia I will send a picture. Well dears I think for one not having much to sy I have done pretty good.

Remember my good advice now dears. It is raining again here now

                              I remain

                                             Your loving son + Brother

                                                            Bob.
