Dear Caroline

Just a few lines to let you know that I am still O.K. and enjoying Army life no less than when in Canada. I was very fortunate about 10 days ago in being transferred to the cyclists down here at Seaford and believe me it has Witley beat a mile. This camp while not quite as large as Witley, is a better camp from every standpoint. Seaford is on the coast and about 10 miles from Brighton and from my tent I can look out onto the channel. It is very beautiful in five days, but five days in England are experiences, and not to be expected too close together. We get more to eat here in one day than at Witley in a week which is probably the reason for liking the place.

Last Saturday we were out for a ride and it is wonderful to ride thro the country here. For the roads are so good and so much of interest to see. I don’t expect however to be able to tell you anything about England that you have not already heard, so will pass it up.

Almost all the Western Canada reserves are in this camp and I have run across several boys I knew in Winnipeg. It seems to me Caroline that Canada must be almost depleted of men judging from the bunches that are arriving from time to time. Had about 1000 in on Sunday night, mostly from the west. Naturally whenever a new draft arrives in camp it is an occasion for everyone to get up and see them.

I almost forgot to mention Caroline that of my supply of socks, the pair you gave me I have worn longest, which gives me a greater amount of reasons for thanking you.

So far I have had no leave but am looking forward to a few days some time in the near future when I am going up to Scotland. The little I saw of it when I landed there some weeks ago was enough to make up my mind as to where I would go. The scenery from Glasgow down to London is something worth seeing. (Another thing you have doubtless heard HAHA). The best I have seen or could wish to see Caroline, is the trip up the Clyde to Glasgow. I never saw such pretty places in my life.

Knowing as I do Carrie that you are a girl of your ward. I wrote you this letter in the face of that piece of statuary you keep at your desk for occasions of this kind, but hope you don’t use it in this case for am lying on the floor to write and whether you have tried it or not your imagination should do something for you.

Having had no American news as yet I often wondered how everything is in the old burg. Trust you are not working too hard Caroline and that you can find a minute between your trench correspondence to drop me a line.

Give regards to your office staff and hope to hear from you sometime.

                           Sincerely,

                                         Randy
