Dear Mother Father + Carrie

               Well dears here goes another short story before I carry on I received the cake ok and it arriver here fine hardly any of the icing was broken off and it sure reminded me of the old times to see some of Mr. Reid’s work he should be a cartoonist.

               Last Friday we had written exam on mechanism etc of a machine gun, we also had an exam on “ drill and we did find. I made 87-100 on the written and 13 seconds on the drill so I am now a qualified machine gunner. Sat. morning I fell in with the company and all morning we were doing rifle drill by number.

               Sat afternoon Murray returned to the fold and believe me I was glad to see him, we dressed up and walked to Godalming where we had a pretty good supper. We came back to camp early and believe me it was some dark walk back. Couldn’t see your hand in front of you.

               It has been pretty foggy here lately and believe me we have a chorus of coughing here all the time. Sunday we had church parade as per usual and afterwards rabbit stew for dinner which was jake.

               Sunday afternoon walked to Godalming had supper and some came back early.

               This morning I was put on a bombing course which will last about 10 days. Murray is also in on this.

               I think this is about all that has happened since I last wrote. I do not know whether I will get a Christmas leave or not. But I hope so. Well dears I think I will close now. I am feeling fine and I sure hope you are all the same.

               Remember me to all the boys and if you have not already sent me some money send me a small post office order as if I can get a pass I want to see Edingburgh.
