Dear Mother Father + Carrie
I did not intend writing to-day but have a few minutes so here goes. We had a voluntary church service this morning no parade and it was certainly a nice change. Murray + I went over together and we enjoyed it although the music was pretty punk.
Received another box from home yesterday and as per she was a coo-coo. It arrived here all jake with the exception of the Italian cookies which were pretty well powdered but just as nice to east as if they had been whole.
This is the fourth letter I have written home this week and believe me news is about the scarcest article I possess. Ask Carrie how she knew I had sent all my handkerchiefs and would have to borrow, steal or buy some. They came just in the nick. I am not going to try and tell you dears how I appreciate your parcels + letters. They are just like god sends to us and are about all we have to look forward to.
We are having a rifle contest to-morrow, a team have been picked from every platoon. am on #13 team. There is a prize given for the best shots, of course I do not expect to even get a smell but it will pass the time away. I certainly wish I could squeeze through a cable + be home but what’s the use of worrying.
Last Friday morning we went for our regular weekly route march, full marching order and about 10 miles we arrived back about 12:15 in the afternoon. We had an oral exam in bombing which did not amount to much. I think we all passed with honors.
Sat. morning it was cold + raining. Had physical drill and a pack inspection. Rifle inspection + rifle drill until noon. In the afternoon was toasting my shins around the stove about 5 PM I donned the kilt and walked to Godalming where I had my weekly meal which consisted of steak and onions. Got back about 8:30 and went to bed.
I have a nasty cold but everybody has one so I should worry. I hope you are all well I supposed you were pretty busy yesterday.
Remember me to all and tell Mrs. Dowler + Mrs. Dr. Nevelle that if I had known they were reading these manuscripts I would have been more particular.
As ever for the fourth time this week
Your loving son + Brother
Bob
